It's Anderson Cooper's CNN now: Larry King hangs up his suspenders, Katie Couric quickly turns them down

Time has finally caught up to Larry King. The 76-year-old CNN news icon— who always made interviewing today's hottest pop culture stars a big part of his nightly show (along with more Elvis retrospectives than anyone could possibly imagine) — is stepping down from Larry King Live, in the fall.
King tweeted that he's hanging up his suspenders when CNN announced the move. He'll make his on-air announcement tonight in what figures to be an emotional show.
The move is anything but unexpected. Ratings for Larry King Live have fallen 37 percent from the same time period last year and possible successors for King have been debated about for months. Still, it nevertheless marks a cosmic shift for CNN, which has been at least somewhat anchored around King's show for 25 of its 30 years in existence. No matter who replaces King on the nightly interview show, the cable news giant is Anderson Cooper's world now more than ever.
Cooper had already replaced King as the voice and face of CNN for many viewers.
King will still do quarterly specials on CNN. And someone will replace him on the nightly interview show.
Katie Couric has already reportedly quickly turned down the notion of stepping into King's suspenders. Piers Morgan, a British journalist who hosts the NBC show America's Got Talent, is in the running. King himself has campaigned for American Idol host Ryan Seacrest, to which one can only say, please no. [YES!]
