After celebrating 25 years hosting CNN’s Larry King Live, speculation of who will succeed Larry King surfaced before he even announced his retirement in the Fall. So who will be able to fill his shoes or should we say suspenders & glasses? "If it was up to me“, King told CBS News, “I'd have Ryan Seacrest do it." Seacrest, the host of an array of shows since 1993, is most popular as host of American Idol. He is the executive producer and host of many television programs and a daily radio show and has occasionally filled in as guest host on Larry King Live.
Online sportsbooks are offering betting odds on who will replace Larry King with Seacrest 7-2, Joy Behar 9-2, Anderson Cooper 15-2, Katie Couric 3-1 and Piers Morgan 5-6. Two of the more likely candidates already in the CNN family are Behar and Cooper. Behar, who started with the View in 1997, is currently one of five women on the panel and usually takes a liberal point of view. Previously a radio talk-show host and comedian, she joined CNN’s HLN last fall hosting her news program, The Joy Behar Show. Behar has also appeared in movies and TV and like Seacrest has filled in as guest host on Larry King Live. Bet Ryan Seacrest 7-2 as a favorite in odds to replace Larry King with a 10% bonus.
Anderson Cooper, currently the anchor of CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360, a television personality, author and journalist, he broadcast’s live from a New York City studio as well as on location for breaking news and often a guest host on Live with Regis and Kelly. Another journalist, Katie Couric, has also been mentioned as a replacement for King. Co-host of NBC’s Today Show from 1991 till 2006 when she took the position with CBS Evening News as managing editor and anchor and correspondent for 60 minutes. Bet Anderson Cooper 15-2 in odds to be the next host of Larry King Live with a 10% bonus.
Least likely to replace King is a British journalist, Piers Morgan. Morgan is best known as a judge in the UK on Britain’s Got Talent and in the US on America’s Got Talent and winner of The Celebrity Apprentice 2008. A newspaper editor and editorial director, he has authored eight books. Although rumors have him as Kings replacement, a CNN spokesman is quoted saying, “We have not offered Piers Morgan a job and are not currently in negotiations with him.”
