CNN Primed to Announce Piers Morgan as Larry King’s Replacement
The ‘America’s Got Talent’ and ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ judge is expected to earn the gig within the next few days

On June 29, longtime CNN talk show host Larry King announced his resignation and speculation has run rampant ever since in regards to who his replacement will be. American Idol host, Ryan Seacrest, 60 Minutes correspondent, Katie Couric, anchor of CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360°, Anderson Cooper, and co-host of The View, Joy Behar, were all rumored to be strong candidates.
Piers Morgan, 45, who serves as a judge on popular reality shows America’s Got Talent and Britain’s Got Talent, has been perceived as the wild card from the very beginning. Earlier this month, a spokesman for CNN claimed that the network was not in negotiations with Morgan.
However, it has become apparent that the network experienced a change of heart, was misquoted, or was lying to the general public. The New York Daily News is reporting that CNN and NBC are currently in the final stages of negotiations that would allow Morgan to replace King in the 9 p.m. ET timeslot while retaining his duties on America’s Got Talent.
A formal announcement is expected to be made in the coming days, and former producer of Larry King Live, Tammy Haddad, is optimistic about Morgan’s potential. “The 9 p.m. hour is the linchpin of any success in cable news,” said Haddad. “Almost every other U.K. TV import has been hugely successful.”
