News of 14-year-old Jamey Rodemeyer’s suicide only months after filming an It Gets Better video felt like a knife through the heart yesterday. I got choked up watching his video for myself as I prepared to write the story of his death. Comments from the over 20,000 people that have read that post in less than 24 hours kept my eyes teary all day.
Anderson Cooper’s coverage of Jamey’s death, and the rampant anti-gay bullying that led up to it, bring all of those heart-wrenching emotions straight back to the surface again.
Cooper’s eulogy holds anti-gay activists accountable for their bullying denial, and is absolutely required viewing. Grab a box of tissues, press play, and then tell someone how much you care for them.
