Anderson Cooper's New Environmental Series Has a Toxic Sponsor
CNN anchor Anderson Cooper doffed his prissy parka for a tight T-shirt for a new weekly series about the environment. But if you look at this ad, you'll see the show's been underwritten by polluting chemical company Dow. Uh oh!
Dow Chemical Company is the parent company of Union Carbide, the company responsible for a toxic gas leak in Bhopal, India in 1984 that ultimately killed thousands. Even now, the Indian Prime Minister is trying to have the former chairman of Union Carbide extradited from the U.S. to stand trial for failing to fix safety flaws that led to what has been described as the "world's worst industrial catastrophe." Maybe this ad campaign is part of Dow's effort to atone for the accident? Let's hope Cooper gets a chance to cover the environmental damage caused by Dow as part of his new show. That would be one way to "keep them honest"!
