Miracle on the Hudson

Pictures you most likely will see tonight on Anderson Cooper 360º

Federal investigators have begun looking into exactly what caused a US Airways jet to go down Thursday in the frigid waters of the Hudson River off New York City. The Airbus 320, in the top right of the picture above, approaches the Hudson River. The plane ditched in the water.
Everyone aboard survived.

Pilot Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger III

Passengers and officials both praised the pilot. "It would appear that the pilot did a masterful job of landing the plane in the river, and then making sure everybody got out," New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said, of Sullenberger.

Peter's NOTE: I've never been more proud of my city, New York, as I was yesterday as I watched this emergency unfold on TV. The calmness of the passengers, the immediate help they received, the boats around that, the moment they saw the plane land in the water, rushed to rescue the people, and most of all the quick thinking of the plane's pilot, Chesley B. Sullenberger, the true HERO of the day!

It was an awe striking event that within a few minutes turned into a proud inspiring occasion for all New Yorkers, in fact, for the whole country. 148 passengers, 5 crew members, one copilot and one amazing pilot; ALL alive today because of a city and its well prepared people, ready to provide the necessary help in an emergency.

What could have been the tragedy of 2009 turned out to be the glory of my city, which, in spite of its reputation as a rude and individualistic city, proved itself to be caring and ready to lend a hand when needed.

I LOVE NEW YORK!
