Anderson Cooper’s Rhymetime With Eminem Airs Sunday Night On 60 Minutes
by Frances Martel | 4:25 pm, October 9th, 2010
Anderson Cooper is not a good rapper. He can’t even find a word that rhymes with “orange.” This the latest from his upcoming 60 Minutes interview with popular early-aughts rapper Eminem, who appears to be staging a comeback of sorts whereby he brags about reading the dictionary and mispronouncing words to fit them into his rhyme scheme. This last technique is something Cooper refers to as “bending words,” for which Eminem had a classic example of words you can’t rhyme: “orange.” He tells Cooper that it “kind of pisses me off” that people would suggest nothing rhymes with orange, “’cause I can think of a lot of things that rhyme with orange.” For example, he tells Cooper: “I put my orange four-inch door hinge in storage and ate porridge with George.” Quite the narrative.
Cooper asks how much of a time investment Eminem puts into his craft: as someone who was not all that successful in school, why would he sit down and read the dictionary, or spend so much time contemplating words? “I drive myself insane with it,” he responds, and notes that he wants to have “all these words at my disposal” for when he needs them, and has actually become somewhat of an auto-didact in the English department.
The full interview airs Thursday night on CBS, but for now, here’ Eminem teaching Anderson Cooper how to rhyme:
