Oil spill latest: BP says their workers are free to talk (video)
BP now says that their workers are free to talk to the press and reporters. For the past 59 days, the nation has scrambled to find the best ways to contain the massive oil spill leak that has quickly become the worst environmental disaster America has faced.
Along Gulf Coast states, shrimpers, fisherman and other marine related workers have been given jobs from BP to aid in cleanup and recovery efforts. For the past month, however, those workers were forbidden to speak to media. Will more people come forward and speak to media or will they remain fearful that they will lose their newly found clean up jobs provided by BP?
CNN’s Anderson Cooper has reported nightly from Louisiana and along the Gulf Coast shores and each time he’d approach BP workers they were told that the workers were forbidden to speak to reporters. In a new documentary created by actor and activist Edward James Olmos, you can see and hear as these workers clearly express their fears working with BP and the possible health consequences they may face down the road.
Edward James Olmos described those in the Gulf Coast as being hopeless. Philippe Cousteau, oceanographer and environmentalist added that the people he has spoken with are frustrated and angry.
Yesterday, BP Chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg apologized to those in the Gulf. He said, “I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to the American people on behalf of all the employees in BP, many of whom are living on the Gulf Coast. And I do thank you for the patience that you have in this difficult time.”
