NY Times profiles CNN’s Anderson Cooper on spill coverage
by Si Cantwell
The New York Times looks at how CNN’s Anderson Cooper has been covering the oil spill.
On a network hoping to plow a middle ground between right-leaning Fox News and the lefties at MSNBC, “Mister Disaster” has become a strident critic of BP and its various responses to the spill.
It’s an interesting read, alleging that cable TV news channels have devoted more coverage to the spill than other outlets. I might say that’s because they tend to focus on a single story. Creating a crisis feeling helps keep people glued to the sets.
But there’s no doubt this environmental disaster deservers major coverage. And at least it has knocked the Tea Party out of center stage for the moment.
