We’re Sorry, Says CNN
Do the people in CNN ever learn from their mistakes?
A year ago, the cable news network invited comedian Kathy Griffin to co-host the 2008 countdown with host Anderson Cooper. During the life broadcast, she jokingly heckled a person in the crowd and suggested he was a male sex worker.
This year, CNN invited Griffin to co-host the countdown again and wouldn’t you know it, she made the news yet again. Surprise, surprise!
While waiting for the ball to drop to ring in the new year, Griffin was joking with Cooper about how to pronounce the name of “balloon boy” Flacon Heene when she said the F-word. The comment hardly fazed Cooper who just hung his head and said, “You’re terrible” before he went on with the show.
Later that day CNN released a statement saying it “regrets that profanity which was used during our New Year’s Eve coverage.”
Griffin’s publicist however made light of the incident saying “Like every other serious reporter covering the now infamous balloon boy hoax. I struggled to pronounce his name, Falcon, correctly and have gotten a kick out of how many ways I’ve heard it pronounced by other serious reporters.”
When a CNN spokesperson was asked if there are plans for Griffin to return to this year’s New Year’s Eve special, the spokesperson said that plans for that broadcast has not been planned yet.
You mean, they’re not actually going to immediately say, “NO!”?

Dear Star online:
Where are you living, people? In a tiny box? The New Year's Eve show with Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin was the best New Year's show on TV. Considering that the show is meant to celebrate midnight, why would anybody have their children up at that time of the night? And if you are complaining because you are worried about the adult audience... then you need to Grow UP! CNN doesn't have to apologize for the minute Grown Up humor they broadcast late, late at night. And Kathy Griffin should be hired for years and years to come to play counterpoint to the seriousness of the sweet Anderson Cooper.
CNN does not have to say "Sorry" for anything! They did not make any "mistake." Kathy Griffin should always be welcome at every New Year's Eve broadcast to continue making CNN New Year's party the best in town!

I don't understand why they are making it into a bigger deal then it was. And I agree that CNN should have her back again next year. I think Kathy and Anderson make a great team and they are very funny together. As if young kids were actually watching. And if they were up that late they were probably watching that Justin Bieber kid on the other channel. But I'm sure Kathy is thrilled that she is making the news ;)
I agree with you, Lynn, totally. Anderson and Kathy are the best that could have happened to New Year's Eve AND to CNN
