Video: AC360 Calls Out Gohmert On '57 States' Remark
by Thanh Tan 6/21/2011
Last night, U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, was again the subject of a "Keeping Them Honest" segment on CNN's Anderson Cooper 360.
Cooper took the congressman to task over statements he made during a recent debate on U.S. involvement in Libya. Gohmert accused President Barack Obama of supporting "57 Islamic states in the world." He was referring to a misstatement then-presidential candidate Obama made on the campaign trail in 2008, when he accidentally said he had visited 57 American states. The candidate's staff blamed the snafu on campaign exhaustion.
Obviously, Gohmert read into it a little more, claiming, "We have an obligation to the 50 American states, not the 57 Islamic states... and this administration will have been complicit in helping people who want to destroy our country."
The last time Gohmert appeared on AC360, he went off on a tirade against Cooper for questioning his now infamous "terror babies" claims (also made on the floor of the U.S. House).
This time, Gohmert refused to appear on the show.
Watch the Texas congressman's remarks and Cooper's effort to set the record straight, below:
