Anderson Cooper from CNN’s 'AC360' tweets from Egypt
February 5th, 2011 -- 2:13 am ET
The situation in Egypt was much calmer today than yesterday, and according to CNN’s Anderson Cooper of AC360, the political unrest seemed to subside after a dangerous day for American journalists like himself and ABC’s Christiane Amanpour.
Anderson Cooper reported from Egypt live yesterday and today for CNN’s AC360 broadcasts, despite continuous threats and a volatile atmosphere. According to Cooper's Twitter posts, the brave reporter “got roughed up by thugs” and his vehicle was attacked yesterday. Here are some of Anderson Cooper’s most recent tweets from Egypt.
• “Yes, I’m tweeting live between breaks or pre-recorded interviews like right now.”
• “Feels good to be live outside broadcasting from Cairo using lights. Security in my location improved a lot today.”
• “About to broadcast AC360 live from Cairo. Latest on gunfire in Tahrir Sq, and amazing day of peaceful protest.”
• “Why didn't Egypt’s military actually help keep peace around Liberation Sq sooner? Why only today have they increased their presence?”
• “Extraordinary turnout in Liberation Square in Egypt, esp. considering attacks on protestors there in the past few days.”
• “Despite attacks on journalists, and great difficulties today, we will be on air tonite at 10pm live from Cairo. Join us!”
• “Situation on ground in Egypt very tense. Vehicle I was in attacked. My window smashed. All ok.”
• “Thanks for tweets of concern. I'm sore and head hurts but fine. Neil and Mary Anne are bruised but ok too. Thanks.”
• “Got roughed up by thugs in pro-Mubarak crowd. Punched and kicked repeatedly. Had to escape. Safe now.”
AC360 airs every weeknight on CNN at 10:00 p.m. ET.
About AC360 on CNN:
Anderson Cooper 360° (commonly shortened to either AC-360 or 360) is a two-hour TV news show on CNN hosted by journalist Anderson Cooper. The program covers the top news stories of the day, usually through live or taped news reports from the network's correspondents. The coverage can also include analysis from experts on the issues, commonly featured in or after the taped reports.
AC360° launched on September 8, 2003, as a laid-back news/talk program running for one hour at 7 p.m. ET. During Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath, CNN executives noticed an impressive ratings boost of NewsNight due to Cooper's on-site reporting and growing popularity. The executives decided to cancel NewsNight and expand 360° to two hours in length on November 7, 2005.
