On Wednesday night's "Daily Show," Jon Stewart responded to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's announcement that he will not seek re-election, and gave him a thorough berating for the attack on Anderson Cooper by his supporters.
The first thing that stuck out to Stewart in the 30-year President's speech Tuesday was that he claimed to have never wanted to be a dictator.
"I just knew as a child that I wanted to oppress people," Stewart mocked.
And when Mubarak announced he would not seek re-election, he noted that he had made the decision before the revolution. He said he had "spent enough time" serving Egypt and its people. Again, Stewart impersonated him:
"Egypt, you can't fire me, I quit! Because you're a bunch of stupid heads! Stupid!"
Mubarak also mentioned that he would still supervise the new government, and with that, even more violence broke out in the streets between anti- and pro-Mubarak demonstrators.
As Stewart pointed out, the Mubarak supporters happened to be much better equipped, armed, organized and on horses. And when they attacked CNN's Anderson Cooper, Stewart declared, "All right, Hosni. Now you've gone too far."
- "Hands off Anderson Cooper! There is not to be a silvery wisp out place on that man's glorious head!"
