Regis Philbin announced today that he's retiring from "Live With Regis and Kelly" at the end of the summer, and although his replacement is yet to be named, Twitter is abuzz with speculation and suggestions -- some of them more realistic than others.
So who should sit next to Kelly Ripa when the Reeg departs?
Many Twitter users would like to see Anderson Cooper take the job, despite the fact that Cooper is launching his own daytime talk show in the fall.
The Food Network's Guy Fieri would be an interesting choice, but how many cooking segments is Ripa willing to do?
Sure, he can be hilarious. But after his controversial appearance at the Golden Globes, Ricky Gervais probably isn't at the top of any network's list.
One Twitter user connects the dots: Regis creates a job opening and a certain former Republican National Committee chairman is looking for work.
America's Next Top Model winner Adrianne Curry nominates her husband, former "Brady Bunch" star Christopher Knight.
All jokes aside, the smart bet may be on "Survivor" host Jeff Probst, who's filled in for Regis a number of times already.
"How I Met Your Mother" star Neil Patrick Harris also has experience in the co-host seat, as does Mark "Mr. Kelly Ripa" Consuelos.
Then again, perhaps a young unknown deserves the chance to build a career as legendary as Philbin's.
