Hear Kathy Griffin drop the f-bomb again, explain her CNN scandal on 'Craig Ferguson'
by Ken Tucker
Last night, tough investigative reporter Craig Ferguson got to the bottom of Kathy Griffin’s “Did she say f— on New Year’s Eve with Anderson Cooper on CNN?” controversy. Or as Craig put it, was she banned for “sayin’ a word that begins with ‘f’ and it isn’t ‘fandango’”? Here are the highlights of the interrogation from The Late Late Show for future reporters to admire:
Griffin says “f—” three times in this conversation alone, I’m pleased to report. And as you can see/hear, Craig does not back away from the f-bomb himself.
“It’s like what Shakespeare did,” says Griffin. “I’m a wordsmith.”
“I wouldn’t go that far,” says Craig.
Hey, maybe CBS needs to put Ferguson and Griffin on, live, next New Year’s Eve. What do you think of that pairing?
I don't know wether admire or condone Craig Ferguson for those four words. He was brave to say them, but also borderline in an offensive way. I guess I would rather think he was trying to be good nature with this joke, but to MANY people it will sound like a big offence!
My opinion: I think Craig is tired of all the guessing about Anderson and he decided to call it as it is. Please remember (or know for the first time) that gay men call each other, at times, to be funny, "girls." But, as I said, gay men do it among ourselves... Does that make Craig a gay man too? I don't think so, and that's, perhaps, were he crossed the line.
Or perhaps he is so friendly with gay guys that he feels free to call us "girls" which is common among gay/straight friends too. But from Anderson's perspective the name may have been not to pleasant. Who knows?
I want to give Craig the benefit of the doubt and think that he is a gay friendly guy who feels comfortable calling us "girls," and I welcome that. I report, you decide.
