Could You Be Fired Over Your Facebook Page? Plus, a Mom's Double Life

Tuesday, March 06, 2012

Should what you post online about your personal life affect your professional life?

Anderson speaks with a teacher, a Girl Scout leader, and a cheerleading coach, who were all fired for revealing personal details of their lives online.

In New York City, after a 12-year-old girl drowned on a class field trip to the beach, a teacher from another school was fired after her Facebook posts became public. These posts included, “After today, I’m thinking the beach sounds like a wonderful idea for my 5th graders. I HATE THEIR GUTS! They are all the devil's spawn.” Anderson hears from the teacher and finds out if she regrets what she wrote.

Start the conversation early: If your child’s teacher posted an inappropriate comment on his or her personal Facebook page, should the teacher be fired? Why or why not? Also, is it appropriate for a Girl Scout leader to be involved with a satanic website?

Plus, Anderson meets a mom so worried her job will affect how people see her -- she hides her double life as a professional dominatrix. Find out why she won't stop. Plus, find out how to avoid hurting your work life because of what you say in your personal life. Anderson has the “dos and don'ts” of how to behave in online social media.
