. After a couple of days debating in my head whether this mosque is a good idea or not I came to the conclusion that it is not!
I don't discriminate against Muslims; but I am sure they, or any other religious group for that matter, would complain if there was a Gay Leather bar opening across the street from them. Hunks coming and going wearing nothing but a leather vest and leather chaps, probably no pants or a tiny resemblance to pants only, kissing other like hunks, just don't seem to mix very well with parishioners coming out of church.
For what I hear on CNN this mosque would be a 15 or so stories tall building and it would include a museum -- where I don't believe they will exhibit any reminders of the 9/11 attack that occurred a block or two from them.
New York is huge, Manhattan is really big, there are many other places where a mosque would be more beneficial than so near Ground Zero. Why would the people who thought about this project didn't consider the reaction of the public towards their mosque? Are they stupid or are they throwing a bait to create more controversy? Stupidity or daring are the only two reasons I can see for the conception of this project. It is not like there are that many Muslims living and/or working in the area.
Why can't they, the people who thought this venture, just leave the situation as it is: calm and still healing? Why bring about an unnecessary project for the area and disturb the relative peace accomplished during the painful past few years?
Anyway, that is my two-cent sermon for this Sunday in June, Gay Pride Month!
