Description: For those who don't know, Thomas Roberts is openly gay. He came out on Anderson Cooper's show when he was still an anchor on CNN. While I have no problems with it, some claim that a gay journalist cannot APPEAR objective in such an emotionally charged report. Anderson Cooper uses similar reasoning in his refusal to talk about his sexuality. While I agree that it's certainly hard not to tell Maggie Gallagher to shut the f*ck up, Roberts did fine as do most gay journalists.
Nude photos that were meant for a gay dating website later got leaked out to the public. He left CNN soon afterwards, and many people think that CNN that pressured him to quit.
========
Coretta Scott King, widow of Martin Luther King, Jr -- and a respected leader in her own right -- was a big supporter of gay rights and gay marriage. That created disagreement in her own family, with some equally vocal against gays. One niece, in particular, speaks at many anti-gay events. Unlike Coretta, she had very little connection with MLK, who died when she was still young, yet she is exploiting his name for her aims. The fact is, no one would invite her to speak at anything if it wasn't for her name.
It's puzzles me that some blacks are so homophobic. In fact, that demographic was a major reason Prop 8 passed in California. Much of the homophobia is based on the Bible. Yet an objective reading of the Bible shows that it supports slavery. Indeed, the same Leviticus that is often quoted against gays also supports slavery:
1) "Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you, from them you may buy slaves" (Leviticus (25:44). In other words, we should judge people in terms of race, and enslave people based on race.
2) "You can will them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life" (Leviticus 25:45). Furthermore, there is no chance for emancipation.
3) "Those who are slaves must consider their masters worthy of all respect, so that no one will speak evil of the name of God and of our teaching. Slaves belonging to Christian masters must not despise them, for they are their brothers." (1 Timothy 6:1-2). So I guess Harriet Tubman and other abolitionists were sinners.
4) And finally, sexual slavery of young girls is apparently not a problem since the bible okays it! (Exodus 21:7) (Gen 19:5, 19:8). So your bible says that CONSENSUAL sex among ADULT MEN is wrong but sexual slavery of minors is okay?
