If you saw veteran newsman Mike Wallace coming — you knew something was wrong and he was going to get to the bottom of it.
The legendary 60 Minutes correspondent died peacefully Saturday night at the age of 93, RumorFix has learned.
Because of his pitbull-style of interviewing — at one point the scariest words in the English language were, “Mike Wallace is here to see you.”
Up until he was slowed by heart surgery three years ago, the master interrogator continued to make news most recently interviewing “Dr. Death” Jack Kevorkian and pitcher Roger Clemens.
For this reporter, one of his most memorable interviews was with Barbra Streisand in the 90s. The superstar told him: “I never thought you liked me.” His response: “I didn’t.”
Wallace, whose career spanned 60 years, is being remember with tributes by some of America’s favorite newscasters:
Anderson Cooper tweeted, “Just heard of the death of Mike Wallace. A true original. What an amazing career and remarkable man.” CNN’s Don Lemon called Wallace “One of my heroes,” and Good Morning America’s Chris Cuomo described the TV legend as “a role model and a good man.”
But perhaps The Today Show’s Ann Curry summed it up best, “Tough questions are being asked in Heaven today.”
