All-American Muslims Debate: How Do You Feel About Muslims Living in the US?
Thursday, November 17, 2011
Anderson explores the controversial new TLC series, “All-American Muslim,” which hasn't aired a single episode, but already has people calling for a boycott. Anderson speaks with several cast members, as well as opponents of the show, and has an open discussion about American Muslims living in the US post-9/11, including Melanie Oberg, who started a Facebook page encouraging others to boycott the show.
Cast member Shadia, who is on the rebellious side of the religion (she refuses to wear a hijab, and sports tattoos and piercings) and her husband Jeff (of Irish descent but converted to Islam when they married), will discuss the controversy with Anderson, and Jeff’s family’s initial opposition to his conversion.
Modern Muslim couple Nawal and Nader will also speak with Anderson about raising an American Muslim child.
Anderson explores the reality of sperm banks, which often don't limit the number of donations one sperm donor can make, resulting in children of sperm donors having multiple half-siblings. Anderson speaks with 18-year-old Alana, who while searching for her sperm donor biological father, discovered a half-brother after joining a sibling registry website. Anderson surprises Alana and introduces her for the first time to her half-brother, Zach. Alana and Zach discover they may have five more siblings.
Then, superstar Hugh Jackman stops by and fulfills a lifelong dream by taking over Anderson’s talk show duties for a segment, hosting “The Hugh Jackman Show.” Hugh also brings Anderson some of his very own Laughing Man Coffee, and discusses how he came up with the inspiration to start a coffee line with all proceeds going to charity. Hugh tells Anderson what his children really think of his new Broadway show, and who the real disciplinarian is in the Jackman household.
Plus, Anderson and Hugh play a rousing game of “Hugh Done It” with Anderson’s studio audience.
