He once admitted that his idea of cooking is bringing frankfurter sausages to the boil.
So it was perhaps with some trepidation that Anderson Cooper steps into the kitchen with British chef Jamie Oliver to help cook a Thanksgiving dinner on tomorrow's edition of his talk show Anderson.
The 44-year-old CNN broadcaster looks distinctly nervous as Jamie persuades him to wear a pair of gloves to rub a butter mixture under the turkey's skin to keep it 'moist and delicious.'
'Wait a minute. What am I going to do with the bird? You're making me put on gloves, what?' Anderson asks. 'This is not that kind of a show.'
After telling Jamie it is 'gross,' Anderson attempts to rub the butter under the skin of the turkey breast.
'Don't tell me it's not the first time, brother,' Jamie asks the embarrassed Anderson, who replies: 'You'd be surprised.'
He looks disappointingly at the turkey and says: 'This does not look appetising at all. Is this what happens to turkey?' In another segment which will air tomorrow, Anderson tackles Jamie's Brussels sprouts dish, admitting he 'just tasted one for the first time.'
Jamie then tries to teach Anderson how to cook a dish which fries shredded sprouts with bacon, sage, and Worcester sauce, telling him to 'give it a nice toss.'
After apologising to the front row 'in case I scald you,' Anderson then vigorously tosses the sprout mixture and ends up spilling half of the mixture all over the floor.
'Good tossing by the way. I said toss it, don't strangle it,' says Jamie.
The pair then sit down to a Thanksgiving dinner with several schoolchildren and Anderson's guest Eric Stonestreet from Modern Family.
