In a Tuesday interview on Anderson Cooper’s daytime talk show, “Cougar Town” star Courteney Cox opens up about remaining close to David Arquette after they separated.
Cooper credits Cox for setting “such a great example not only for your child [daughter Coco] but just for everybody.”
Cox acknowledges it wasn’t easy after 11 years of marriage to Arquette. “There was one moment that I thought this is not going to go well,” she tells Cooper. “You know when David and I got married, the preacher who married us said something very important. He said, ‘You live in Hollywood. It’s really hard to keep marriages together, try to set an example.’ And I think we did a good job, but we are going to try to set the same example if you are not supposed to be together.”
“Anderson” airs at 2 p.m. weekdays on WESH-Channel 2. “Cougar Town” airs at 8:30 Tuesdays on ABC.
Cox also talks about supporting Arquette during his stint on “Dancing With the Stars.”
“I just went because I love David and, of course, I want to support him, and it was a great thing to do,” she says. “Every Monday night, Coco and I would go, and it was a family thing. To sit next to my daughter, it’s so big, her excitement is just so fantastic. I had the best seven weeks or six weeks that I’ve had in a long time.”
Cox also talked to Howard Stern even though Arquette has opened up on the radio show with sometimes embarrassing information.
Cox explains: “He likes to call afterwards and say, ‘I hope you’re not mad.’ And I was like, ‘David, I’ve known you so long. I know you can’t keep your mouth closed. It’s going to be OK.’ And then recently I called in, because we’re promoting “Cougar Town” … I just started talking. I’m not exactly a closed book. But I had to call David and say, ‘I hope you’re not mad.’ “
