Phoenix – Brewers pitchers John Axford and Randy Wolf take part in an uplifting story today on Anderson Cooper’s syndicated television show “Anderson.”
Axford and Wolf participate via video feed (taped yesterday at Maryvale Baseball Park) as a Brewers fan from Medford, Wisconsin named Matt Razink is presented with a functioning prosthetic lower arm and hand made by Advanced Arm Dynamics. The father of three lost the limb in an industrial accident a few years back.
“He was presented his ‘bionic’ arm yesterday and will be on the show today,” said Axford. “It’s fully capable. We couldn’t see the video feed but he was able to move the hand and grab certain things. (Cooper) gave him a baseball.
“We were there to invite him out to spring training. He and his family are coming out the weekend of March 9th. He said the sad part about it was he couldn’t play catch with his son. Now, he has this new ‘bionic’ arm that hopefully will allow him to do that.”
The syndicated show will air in Milwaukee on the local Fox 6 channel at noon.
Matt is also scheduled to throw out a first pitch at a Brewers game during the regular season at Miller Park.
“I’d love to see him when he comes down here,” said Axford. “He’s the first civilian to get this kind of arm. They said it had only been given to military personnel.”
Axford said he never thought he’d be on a show with Cooper.
“He introduced me as ‘John The Axman Axford,’” said Axford. “So, he knew to say that. It comes on at 4 p.m. here today so I should be able to see it.”
