Favorite male newscasters for brains and style
The camera lights are on, the news director gives the appropriate cue, and the newscaster is on, delivering breaking news on TV. The job of a TV anchor is rarely glamorous; more often than not, it is intense and demanding, and requires extreme attention to detail. To top everything off, most newscasters, male and female, will occasionally be criticized for their garb and their grooming choices. We superficial viewers will consciously (and subconsciously) judge a book by its cover. It is human nature. And anyone on TV knows how to attract and retain larger audiences by combining journalism with a polished style.
Let’s take a look at some of the most famous TV newsmen. These guys combine brains and style. Who scores highest in both categories?
1. The inimitable John Stewart never ceases to amaze with his unique sense of humor and quick witt. How does he fare against his fellow newscasters? |
2. Matt Lauer from the NBC’s Today show is a perpetual favorite among women, both for his presence on screen and his approachable tone. Clothing choices aren’t all that bad, either. |
3. Stephen Colbert loves a well-pressed suit and sports a colored arm band, which usually is color coordinated with his tie. The Colbert Nation is a sensation and Stephen Colbert’s face is everywhere, from magazine front pages to mugs. How many votes will he score? |
4. Larry Smith is a sports anchor for CNN. With a southern sense of decorum and a real knack for sticking his foot in his mouth (or maybe he is just stupid). What do you think? |
5. CNN host Anderson Cooper has many fans. How many are women and for what reasons? Will you vote for him? |
6. Keith Olbermann, the host of MSNBC’s Countdown, is sharp all around. One of the most prominent reporters on TV, and one of the best dressed in my opinion. He frequently opts for the more formal three-piece suit, but he accessorizes with a loud tie, giving him that unique Olbermann signature style. Any other fans? |
Women in a follow-up article, so stay tuned.
The vote so far, as of 1:00 PM ET: |
Of course, Anderson is winning, there's no surprise about that. Post a comment here: Anderson Cooper. |
I was the first to comment, and this is what I said:
"Asa Murphy,
I vote for Anderson Cooper, no doubt about it. But in his description you ask "How many [fans] are women...?" Yet you didn't give us a place to list whether we are a woman, a man, or gay. That would be an interesting poll! I bet you the gays would be the most numerous -- I am gay, and Anderson will always be numero uno, dos y tres with me! Jon Stewart comes close right next in line."
