Joementum To Become Joechristian
WASHINGTON (CAP) (CNN) (P.E.T.E.R.) - This is Anderson Cooper reporting for Anderson Cooper 360º from the Nation's Capital.
A source close to Senator Joe Lieberman has confirmed me that the senator will soon renounce his Jewish heritage and convert to Christianity.
"Ooooh!" I said and waited for more information.
"Joe just hasn't been feeling hugely Jewish lately," the source, Eva Peralta, who requested to remain anonymous, said. "And he's always wanted to try Christmas because he believes Santa Claus is real."
Apparently Lieberman's decision, which has been brewing for a while, came to a head in early January after the senator realized he had just missed a bunch of presents from the previous December 25th. Then, the source told me, "Joe was surfing the Internet and he came across the site Jews For Jesus. 'Oy,' said Joe. He then spent half an hour grilling me on the New Testament, and two hours pestering me with questions about the North Pole," recalled the source.
The source denied that this was an attempt to shore up the senator's support before what looks to be a bruising health care bill comes to a vote.
And what brand of Christianity will Lieberman call his spiritual home? I asked Ms. Peralta.
"Joe is still fielding offers," she said.
Once converted, Senator Lieberman is expected to donate his yamaka and menorah to the Connecticut branch of the Jewish Property Relocation Operation (JewProp).
