Celebrity Scoop: Erica Hill
By Jay Bobbin, Zap2It | March 3, 2010
Erica Hill has had no problem trading a very late shift for a very early shift.
Already the Saturday co-anchor of "The Early Show," the quick-witted Hill left CNN (and "Anderson Cooper 360") at the start of this year to go full time with CBS by also becoming weekday news reader on its morning program. The switch was made more significant for her by the fact that she's expecting her second child.
"The schedule is great," Hill maintains, "because it allows me to be home at night with my family, which is really nice. I haven't been able to do that in probably seven years. Even though I'm still working six days a week, I'm on the same schedule every day, so it's a little easier. I don't have that tight turnaround from Friday night (on CNN) to Saturday morning (on CBS)."
Hill came in with familiarity, since her work on the Saturday "Early Show" already had acquainted her with "the same network, the same studio and a lot of the same crew. I did know some people from the weekday show, so it's a much easier transition when you've already got your foot in the door a bit."
In her early weeks of doing "The Early Show" exclusively, Hill hasn't focused much on ratings: "Sometimes the numbers don't reflect the best or worst shows you've done. Maybe more people are home because of the weather, or maybe it's because of what the news was. It can be so many factors."
Between pregnancy and the new job, Hill acknowledges she's handling "a lot at once, but I knew it was coming, so I wasn't shocked. My husband and I joke about it, since we're also thinking about moving. This way, we're just done with all of it."
