A Canadian Award
Gloria Vanderbilt establishes new Canadian literary award
Posted: March 02, 2010, 10:52 AM by Mark Medley
Well, we didn't see this one coming. Earlier today it was announced that Gloria Vanderbilt -- author, actress, heiress and mother to Anderson Cooper -- is establishing an annual short fiction award for emerging Canadian authors.
The first winner of the $2000 prize, which is being established in memory of her son, Carter V. Cooper, who committed suicide in 1988, will be awarded in April 2011. The prize will be awarded annually, and the winner will be selected by Vanderbilt. Additionally, the finalists for the prize will appear in an anthology published by Exile Editions -- the publishing arm of the literary journal which recently published two of Vanderbilt's short stories and a number of her paintings.
Vanderbilt's most recent book is Obsession: An Erotic Tale, which was published in 2009.
Vanderbilt will be in Toronto on March 13 to formally announce the prize.
