.. Super Cute Drew Griffin reports.
The old city in Cartagena, Colombia is an amazing sight. The “walled city” probably doesn’t look too different now compared to when the Dutch, French and English attacked the city in search of its wealth of gold and silver. It truly is breathtaking. But once you get passed the archways and enter the old city, you notice prostitution is thriving here.
I’ve been to many foreign countries where prostitution is wide open and on the streets, but it’s different here. When we visited, it was very aggressive. We were approached countless times by street hustlers looking to take us to brothels, or by street prostitutes who were openly walking the streets next to police. The street was bustling with this type of activity and it’s easy to see how the Secret Service got tangled up in this controversy.
We spent a couple hours in the bar where agents are alleged to have been partying all night. The place was filled with tourists, locals, music and women. We watched as men were approached and other men approached women. It was all mixed in with people who were just there to have a drink and enjoy the music. Everyone we spoke with says, that’s life here. Prostitution is very open. They also say, the Secret Service personnel showed poor judgment when they decided to take women back to their hotel rooms.
