The following interview is the most revealing video I have seen demonstrating some of the extremist sentiments behind the Tea Party Express movement. In the interview Mark Williams, one of the chief organizers of the Tea Party protests, is interviewed by Anderson Cooper and other CNN panelists regarding his viewpoints.
Williams first tries to go on the offensive by saying that it is liberals who are calling Tea Party protesters Nazis. Cooper, who clearly did some good research, points out that it is in fact Williams who accuses President Obama of essentially being a Nazi. Williams is then forced to acknowledge that he in fact does list President Obama as a "21st Century Nazi" on his website because of Obama's alleged support of "fascism" and "socialism."
After being able to divert the subject for a while William's radical viewpoints again get exposed later in the interview. Cooper again quotes from William's blog in which he called President Obama a "Indonesian Muslim turned welfare thug" and a "racist in chief." Rather than backing away from those comments Williams actually stands by the quotes.
While I do not always agree with James Carville I believe he gets it right in this interview. Carville says we should listen to the view of people like Williams and support his right to free speech. If people really agree with the man after hearing all of these viewpoints then they can but most Americans I believe will reject the kind of extremism advocated by Williams. Some people in the Tea Party movement are genuinely concerned about the size of government but people like Williams clearly go too far in their advocacy.
