On Anderson Cooper 360 Thursday night, CNN chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta tentatively diagnosed Cooper with swine flu. Gupta recently came down with the virus himself ("the sickest I've ever been") while traveling in Afghanistan, and was on Cooper's program to talk about swine flu "as a physician and a patient." It quickly developed that the two men had seen each other in Afghanistan, and, as Gupta revealed to Cooper, it was highly likely that he also caught the flu while traveling.
"You and I talked about this while we were both in Afghanistan, and you were quite sick as well," Gupta said. "And I came to find out later on that H1N1... was circulating quite a bit, Anderson, in the area that we were in."
"Was it really? No one mentioned that to us... at least to me." Cooper and Gupta both laughed briefly.
Gupta pressed on earnestly, "I know, I mean, frankly speaking we can talk about this now via satellite... but there's a good chance... that you also had H1N1 virus infection."
