Women for Women International provides women survivors of war, civil strife and other conflicts with the tools and resources to move from crisis and poverty to stability and self-sufficiency, thereby promoting viable civil societies.

Zainab Salbi, Founder of Women for Women International, started the grassroots humanitarian and development organization 18 years ago after she saw what was happening during the war in Bosnia.

"The patterns of what happens to woman and to human beings in war are the same," says Salbi. "Women are always targeted for violence in terms of rape. Eighty percent of refugees in the world are women and children. 90% of modern work casualties are civilians. Seventy-five percent of which are women and children."
