Irvin Mayfield to appear on CNN tonight

CNN is scheduled to air a segment featuring New Orleans trumpeter Irvin Mayfield on Tuesday, May 25 at 10:30 p.m. CST.

CNN correspondent Soledad O’Brien taped an interview with Mayfield last week as part of a documentary about the upcoming fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. In addition to Mayfield, the segment reportedly includes footage from this spring’s “Seeking Satch” trumpet competition.

Sponsored by the French Market and the New Orleans Jazz Institute at the University of New Orleans, where Mayfield is an instructor, “Seeking Satch” sought young, up-and-coming local trumpeters, three of whom would win full scholarships to UNO’s jazz studies program.

Mayfield is the founder and artistic director of the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra. He is also a member of the National Council on the Arts, the advisory board for the National Endowment for the Arts.

Unless it is preempted by breaking news, the Mayfield segment is slated to air during “Anderson Cooper 360” tonight.
