Conjoined Twins
Tuesday, June 19, 2012
Anderson welcomes two sets of conjoined twins, one pair still conjoined and the other now separated.
Anderson speaks with 4-year-old conjoined twins Tatiana and Krista Hogan, the only known twins to share a critical part of the brain. Their parents will discuss challenges and concerns associated with raising conjoined twins and society’s reaction to them.
Dr. Sanjay Gupta also joins Anderson to explain the science behind how Tatiana and Krista’s brain functions, including their sharing of thoughts, vision, hearing, touch and taste -- and why it is not currently possible to separate them.
Anderson also speaks with formerly conjoined twins, 10-year-olds Josie and Teresa Alvarez, who were separated over nine years ago, and their parents, to discuss life after the separation.
