Indianapolis — The City of Indianapolis is gearing up for a record crowd Saturday afternoon for the Indianapolis 500 Festival Parade. Over 300,000 people are expected to be in downtown Indy for the 54th presentation of the parade which begins at noon at Pennsylvania and North Streets. This year's parade is made up of more than 80 entries and features the Grand Marshal Anderson Cooper along with several other celebrities, race car drivers, floats, bands, balloons and special units.
City officials are reminding parade-goers to arrive early and be prepared to walk to their viewing spot as most streets will start closing as early as 6 a.m., with the entire parade route closed by 8 a.m. Officials are also reminding parade-goers about new city parking codes. Metered parking will have a four-hour time limit and is no longer free on Saturdays. Please read the sticker on the meter and follow the directions accordingly.
Parade officials are also reminding people that there is plenty of parking around Indianapolis, both public and private but to make sure and check with those areas on any restrictions they might have.
