Whoopi Goldberg gets hot over BP oil spill

If you are hot under the collar over the Gulf oil spill you are not alone, comedienne and ABC talk show co-host Whoopi Goldberg is angry too and it shows. Goldberg got hot over a discussion on the still out of control BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. She became especially irritated when the conversation turned to BP’s responsibility and there lack of preparedness for this disaster. Goldberg also expressed her anger at how the company has handled things since the spill started over a month ago.
Goldberg went off on a BP rant on her ABC talk show “The View” on Tuesday, she said:
- Somebody, either implode the thing, make it fold in on itself, get a…. bloody cap to put on the top of it, but fix it because it's going into the ocean and I'm sick of the time you are taking to take care of this!
- I’m so scared…. I’m scared of what's happening in the ocean, man! It may go into Europe. It's sliding along and BP is kind of going, ‘oh, we're going to try this thing now’ and meanwhile, if the oil…. they mess with my shrimp!
Right now oil is still gushing into the waters of the Gulf Coast with no end in sight. The disaster is having a dramatic impact on several fronts. The environmental impact is unprecedented. It’s estimated that more than 5,000 barrels of oil is being released every day. Evidence of the damage to marine life is already appearing on beaches. Birds and turtles are being found on beaches covered in oil. An army of volunteers, vets and animal activist have begun the task of treating sick animals covered in oil and cleaning beaches and shoreline. The economic impact is expected to top $2 billion.
Atlanta based CNN has teams of reporters in the Gulf area covering various aspects of the disaster. The network’s primary anchor, Anderson Cooper has been broadcasting live from the Gulf. Much like Whoopi Goldberg’s outburst today, Anderson has been known to go off and light a fire under the powers-that-be during times of crisis especially when nothing is getting done. Just today new HD reak-time video has just been released of the leak. The video depicts the leak as being worst than previous images released by BP.
While Whoopi Goldberg has her critics, I’m sure the one thing that most Americans can agree on is that this leak has gone on long enough. No matter who you blame for this situation or who you think is responsible for finding the solution, something need to be done… and soon. Could this be the catastrophic event that threatens all life on Earth as predicted in countless movies, books and TV shows about the future?
