Ed Markey says BP is lying to avoid further penalty

(NECN/CNN) - BP is downplaying a bold promise from executive Doug Suttles. He says the company expects to be capturing almost all of the oil gushing from the Gulf well by early next week, but BP says that will take more time.

Meantime, Massachusetts Congressman Ed Markey (D) tells CNN's Anderson Cooper that BP continues to hide critical information about the size of the oil catastrophe.

That "top hat" over the leaking well captured about 620,000 gallons yesterday, but scientists say they still do not know how much oil is gushing from the well.

Markey says BP is lying to save money.

President Barack Obama will be back in the Gulf Coast region next week, visiting more areas affected by the oil crisis.
